Capitol Satay Celup

We went to this Capitol Satay, a satay celup restaurant at Melaka during my previous trip to the south. For those who don’t know what is satay celup, actually it was something like steamboat we normally have but the different is there are no soup, we just dunked all the meats, seafood and vegetables into a pot of thick satay sause.

We arrived at around 6.00pm and were lucky that there is still table available for us. Just after few minutes that, crowd start coming and the place was packed with long queue starting to gather from outside. We sat down, ordered our drinks and went off to choose the foods (it was self service). Satay Celup, similar to lok lok, has different varieties of food like fish balls, crabsticks, meat, prawns and vegetables on skewers. Each skewer costs only RM0.50 even for big prawns. Weeeeeee…… conclusion is the price was reasonable and the food was nice, a must try if you go to Melaka.

Heard that there was several shops that serve this Melaka specialty but Capitol Satay Celup is the best.

  • FYI - There are many place to eat satay celup (Jalan Ong Kim Wee got two shops) and some are as cheap as 40 cents (5 years ago when I was in uni it was 30 cents a stick.. hehe). Did u try chicken rice ball in Jonker Walk?

  • As a Malaccan and food enthusiast, I can say Capitol Satay Celup isn't the best to offer in Malacca. The best one is in Ong Kim Wee Road, Ban Lee Hiang Satay Celup. Although less variety, but the sauce is the bomb. ;-) Capitol Satay Celup caters for tourists especially those from Singapore. :)

  • Most ppl in Mcca shd noe abt this restaurant. It was the famous satay celup and whenever you go there you need to queue for the table. I always went there to have their satay celup.
But last week, I was surprised when I pay for the bill. They'd increase the price to 70cent per stick and a plate can cost up to RM5.00(No price label in the shop).
The thing that freak me out is they charge RM1.70 for a small plate of cucumber and RM2.20 for a few pieces of bread. FYI, dis is a cheap bread and it cost aro 1.00 for whole loaf of it. Even gardenia's bread is not that expensive.
They've increased their price for all item including drinks...
I'd rather spend the money on Japanese food..Haha
